About the Member At-Large
George has served on City Council since 2015 and has an extensive history of civic service, including leadership positions on the boards of the Greenville Chamber, United Way of Greenville County and Renewable Water Resources (ReWa).
George holds Bachelor of Science degrees in civil engineering and business administration from the University of Kansas and a Master of Science degree in environmental systems engineering from Clemson University. He is a retired professional engineer and founder of the Fletcher Group, an environmental management and engineering firm, where he served as president from 1993 to 2006. After retiring from the Fletcher Group, he became the first executive director of the SC Council on Competitiveness, a position he held from 2006 through 2013.
Throughout his career, George received numerous awards and honors, including SC Engineer of the Year, Greenville Magazine Business Person of the Year and induction into the Thomas Green Clemson Academy of Engineers and Scientists. He also had an active role in several major Upstate initiatives, including coordinating the Greenville Vision 2025 process, chairing the Baseball Stadium Committee, which led to the creation of Fluor Field, and chairing the Clemson/Greenville Chamber Research Task Force, which led to the creation of the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research.
George and his wife, Dr. Sarah Fletcher, have two children and four grandchildren.
